Designing for New York’s weekly print magazine for 6 years was like a design boot camp on the visual DNA and history of a 50 year old venerated brand. I gained a deep familiarity of the visual language of the magazine, which I then spent the following 3 years synthesizing into all of New York Media’s digital products: websites; a CMS; design systems; architecture; editorial; social media; custom story design; and other platforms. After the almost total overhaul, as a epilogue, I wrote these principles, which now serves as the foundational that weaves it all together.
