Designing for New York’s weekly print magazine for 6 years was like a design boot camp in the history, visual language and DNA of a 50+ year old brand. I gained a deep familiarity with the magazine, which I then spent the following 3 years synthesizing into all of New York Media’s digital products: websites; a CMS; design systems; architecture; editorial; social media; custom story design; 3rd party platforms. After the almost total overhaul, as a bookend, I wrote these principles, which serve as the foundational threads that weave all of it together.
